Sightreading Tips

Become a great sightreader by practicing these skills:

Know which notes belong in what key, where those pitches on the page translate to string positions.
Examine the music for obvious trouble spots.
Look at the time signature, rhythm, and key.
Read ahead and think in terms of patterns rather than individual notes.
Don't stop when you make a mistake.
Practice scales and arpeggios as these are the building blocks of most pieces.
Work on sight-reading every time you practice.

We also offer classes in Music Theory, Keyboard Skills, Ear Training, Sinfonia, Orchestra, and Music History to support the core curriculum for the serious string student.
